(More customer reviews)There is a ridge around the outer edge of the bottom on this pan. This lifts most of the pan about 1/8" off a smooth cook top. Contact with the cook top is important for efficient, even and effective heating! Don't order this for a smooth top. However, the overall quality seems very good--no voids or sharp edges. It would probably be fine for a gas range or campfire...and I love cast iron cookware.
