The large capacity pot is designed to accommodate large gatherings and produce outstanding results.The faucet helps drain off steamy liquids without getting burned. Porcelain enamel is the result of fusing powdered glass to a substrate by firing, usually between 750 and 850 degrees Celsius. The powder melts and flows and hardens to a durable vitreous coating on a carbon steel core. It creates a smooth, hard finish that won't burn and resists staining. It's also non -porous so it won't trap odors or food particles and provides a low coefficient of friction - meaning that it cleans up easily and, it is corrosion and chemically resistant so it will last a long time.When fired, the vessel is placed on pins so the bottom and sides are hardened during the firing process into one smooth laminated glass surface. You may notice slight pin indentations where the glass has flowed around the pin that supports the base during firing. (More customer reviews)This is a pretty big pot!I'd say you could steam about 3 1/2 dozen or a little more medium sized Maryland crabs.We steamed 3 dozen (but the crabs were a little small) and there was room left for a few more.The insert pot has holes at the bottom and sides which helps them steam faster than when the hole are just at the bottom.

Granite Ware 1- and 2-Quart Saucepan Set Review

(More customer reviews)I have now been using one or both of these pans on a daily basis for almost a year. They are easy to clean and the finish has not chipped (I usually use bamboo or wooden utensils to stir), even though I have gone shopping and seen similar pots on sale unused with chips. I do use a "flame tamer" when making rice or things that are thick such as chili so that the food on the bottom doesn't brown or burn--the pans are one thickness and get too hot on the bottom without the flame tamer. But the pans are fine usedalone whenI cooking soups or vegetables. These pans provide an economical and useful tool for those who want to avoid using aluminum or even stainless steel pots, which is why I switched. They come without lids, but I prefer Corning glass lids and have them already in sizes that fit the pans. I also bought a larger one of these graniteware pots; it came with a matching lid, but I prefer to use the glass one instead.
