Revere 1400 Line 12-Quart Restaurant Style Stockpot with Cover Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased this pot at a local retailer when I discovered I needed a stainless steel pot for making cheese at home. All of my cookware, which I have been just this side of replacing for a year, is nonstick. I'm not a fan of nonstick for anything except the cleanup process -- and when it begins to deteriorate, it's flat out unheatlhy. So I was excited about the prospect of buying a nice stainless pot that I could also use in the oven.

The good about this pot:

- Although the copper coating on the bottom is thin, after several batches of cheese I have not seen any scorching when working on an electric coil stove.

- For its size, it is very lightweight.

- I have had no trouble cleaning it, even removing the residue from working with coagulated dairy products. (However, it must be cleaned properly!)

- The lid seals tightly and the handles are well-made and easy to work with.

- It can go from stovetop to oven, making it a viable option for recipes like goulash or roasts without having to go to a cast iron pot.

- Its configuration (tall and narrow) means that it does not hang over the sides of a large coil burner and retains heat well.

The negatives:

- As other reviewers have stated, this is not the RevereWare of old. It is thinner, not as finely milled inside, and can't be used on glasstop surfaces.

- You actually have to clean it. Many people have gotten spoiled with nonstick cookware and no longer know what it's like to have to soak and soap a pot right after using it in order to keep from ruining it. I don't personally consider this a negative, but it's definitely a consideration if you're a "cook today, clean tomorrow" kind of person.

You will pay far, far more than the price of this pot for a heavy stainless or coated cast iron item of the same capacity. With a clear understanding of its limitations, I think it's an excellent addition to my kitchen.

(More customer reviews)Currently, the product page here at Amazon says "Tight fitting covers seal in flavors", which sounds to me like it's supposed to come with a lid, and it doesn't.It's a great pan, nevertheless.I love the 3-quart size.One thing that's a little annoying about it, but I'm not sure it could be changed, is, it has no lip whatsoever and the metal is fairly thick so it pours horribly.I occasionally make tea for ice tea in it, and you have to dip out the tea with another cup until the pan is at least less than one-half full. If you try to pour liquid out of the pan with the pan about a half full or more, it will invariably run down the side of the pan and make a mess, no matter how hard you try to be careful. Still, a good, solid cooking pan.

CorningWare French White 23-Ounce Oval Dish Review

(More customer reviews)I have about 6 of these made of the original Corning pyroceramic and we use them all the time to reheat foods. However, these as shown are not the "real thing."

The original "French White" Corningware was made of Corning's famous pyroceramic glass, which could be used on the gas stove, put directly in the freezer, put under the broiler right from the freezer, and oh yes, also used in a microwave. And it was very unlikely to shatter if dropped. If you pounded on it with a hammer and nail you might have gotten it to break.

When World Kitchens bought the license from Corning, they decided to halt production of a line of cookware that would take anything and last forever, and dupe customers, especially brides, into thinking the stoneware "French White" was the same thing as the wonderful French White pyroceramic cookware previously available to their mothers and sisters.

The pattern is very attractive and can be used with any decor, and theydo offer many sizes, but this stuff is not, repeat, really not, what people mean when they say "Corningware."

Le Creuset can do most of the above mentioned, but it being metal you cannot use it in the microwave. Stoneware cannot go on top of the stove, and repeated trips from the freezer to the oven or microwave, which you are likely to do with these little dishes, will eventually cause it to craze and crack. And stoneware will also chip, and break if dropped, etc. Pyrex glassware cannot go on the gas stove although you can take it from the freezer to the oven, and also microwave it.

The only product which could do anything was pyroceramic, and World Kitchens has chosen to remove it from the market because it is "too good."

They have recently brought back a few of the old square shapes, with the Cornflower, or plain white, calling it "vintage," but the French White shape is not making an appearance yet. If you want it, email them and ask for it!

Meanwhile, don't buy this stuff. Get Le Creuset for cooking and roasting (yes it is expensive but it lasts forever and cooks beautifully), and reheat things in Pyrex in the microwave.

The overall size is 13x9.Needless to say, they will not fit in my oven. I am in a wheelchair, and depend on Amazon to give me correct information, it is not so easy to get out to send things back, now I have different sets of these pans to return, all wrong sizes!

CorningWare French White 15-Ounce Oval Dish Review

- Cannot emphasize this enough: THINK ABOUT HOW SMALL 15 OUNCES REALLY IS!

It's not much.Even a can of prepared soup is 16 ounces.This is an individual serving size dish.I know they give you the dimensions...but they should call it a "single serving" dish or something, just to be clearer.If in doubt, get out a ruler and look at how small 7 x 5 inches is.

- The lid could be a lot better:

It would be nice if it was clear, or had a vent.As it is now, you have to position it carefully in the microwave so the dish does not "seal" while cooking (which will ruin it).

Also, the lid kind of "dips down" into the dish - it should be the opposite - "domed" - so you can fit a bit more food in.The concave shape means that if you fill the dish to the top, some will squeeze out when you seal it.Thus making it...well, more like a 14-ounce dish!:-)

- That being said, if all you want is a teeny dish to heat up a little bit of something for yourself, the quality is good and it will do the job.

Calphalon D1382PB Commercial Hard-Anodized 12-Inch Everyday Pan with Lid Review

(More customer reviews)I've owned this pan for about two years ... it's simply wonderful. The Calphalon Commercial line is the top of the line, just like the Professional, but with stay-cool handles. The thick, sturdy aluminum heats up quickly and evenly, and goes from the stovetop to the oven up to any temperature.
My favorite dish to make with this pan is a large omelette for two to four people. You saute the onions, etc., until carmelized, then add the whipped eggs, top it with diced tomatoes, basil, oregano and cheeses, then broil at about 450 for a couple minutes until browned. Simply wonderful!
I also cook stir frys, poach fish, bake casseroles, and brown meats in this truly Everyday Pan.
Now, for the issues: As with all true Calphalon products, you can not put hard-anodized aluminum into the dishwasher. It will damage the surface, leading to pits and discolorations, and void the lifetime warranty to boot!
Second, this is not a nonstick pan. If you want nonstick, buy Calphalon Commercial Nonstick, the best ever made (The Commercial nonstick line has the more advanced LRS3 coating versus the much less effective LRS coating on the cheaper Professional Nonstick II line).
To clean, simply buy a Dobie pad or its equivalent. For the tough stuff, I find a little Bon Ami or Dormond cleaner does the trick without too much effort.

(More customer reviews)This is a great set of quality cookware that contains only pieces you will use on a daily basis.There are no pieces that will find their way to the back of the cabinet, never to emerge again.These pots cook very evenly, and are easy to clean.The finish is great, and all pieces are dishwasher safe.They are beautiful and can be hung from a pot rack.The locking straining lid on the 8-quart stockpot is wonderful for easily draining liquids, because you do not have to hold the lid on.The 2-quart pot also has a handy straining lid; you have to hold that lid on but the pot is not heavy so it is easy to do.
The one complaint I have is that I wish the set had included a regular 10" lid to use with the stockpot and skillet, and not just the straining lid.Most people will probably want to buy a lid separately, especially if you plan to use the stockpot for more than cooking pasta (I use it for soup and stews as well as pasta).
You may also find youself buying other specialized pieces, but this is a great set with which to start.Farberware did another super job with this one.

Eventually, I noticed the handles were loose. My husband tried to tighten them but it didn't work. There were so many other things a family of four needed, I just ddin't want to spent the money on a new pan. I had it on my Amazon wish list for a couple years..............then when I made up my mind to buy the pan, I scrolled down and saw the hardware for vintage reverve ware. My huband (of 30 years) is pretty handy and I thought if I got the parts he could fix the pan. Voila! He did and we are totally back in business with this pan at a cost of $4.00 instead of $27.00!

J.A. Henckels International Classic Clad 5-Quart Non-Stick Saute Pan with Lid Review

(More customer reviews)I love this size of pan & use it almost daily (from pancakes to chili).Things that I like about the pan:

-pan is oven safe to a high temperature (500, if I remember correctly)
-the handles stay cool for quite a while on the stove top (the exception is with long simmer)
-tight fitting lid
-nice weight (but not too heavy)
-very easy clean-up (hand wash)
-distributes heat evenly (much better than the cheap non-stick 5 qt pan I had previously)

I have had the pan a few weeks & haven't encountered any problems.I hope this pan will last a while.We'll see.
