- Cannot emphasize this enough: THINK ABOUT HOW SMALL 15 OUNCES REALLY IS!

It's not much.Even a can of prepared soup is 16 ounces.This is an individual serving size dish.I know they give you the dimensions...but they should call it a "single serving" dish or something, just to be clearer.If in doubt, get out a ruler and look at how small 7 x 5 inches is.

- The lid could be a lot better:

It would be nice if it was clear, or had a vent.As it is now, you have to position it carefully in the microwave so the dish does not "seal" while cooking (which will ruin it).

Also, the lid kind of "dips down" into the dish - it should be the opposite - "domed" - so you can fit a bit more food in.The concave shape means that if you fill the dish to the top, some will squeeze out when you seal it.Thus making it...well, more like a 14-ounce dish!:-)

- That being said, if all you want is a teeny dish to heat up a little bit of something for yourself, the quality is good and it will do the job.

(More customer reviews)I have a set of bowls made by BIA that I picked up at a local... store, and have been searching for more since that day!I LOVE these bowls.They are absolutely perfect for a good helping of noodles, or red lentil dal, soup or chowder. They also can double as a serving dish for a side of veggies.
My bowls are high on the sides and resemble a rice bowl.This picture makes the product look a bit more rounded in comparison to what I bought.But in any other way, they are the same.
I love them.What else can I say?

(More customer reviews)These bowls are great.I almost got the set with 4 bowls, but I'm glad I didn't as I think the smallest bowl would have potentially been too small.These bowls are very nicely sized.

I like that it is very easy to store these.Simply put the lids on each bowl and next them inside each other.Do make sure they are dry though if you do this as the lids seal extremely well.I've had covered mixing bowls before and they've always sealed like crap.I'm very pleased with how these seal.

These are of course easy to clean.They are easy to use a hand mixer in.They have a variety of very useful sizes for your needs.

I'm very pleased with these items.I don't think I'd recommend putting the lids in the dishwasher in the long term though as I think it could screw up how well the lids seal.The bowls themselves could easily go into the dishwasher though.

CorningWare French White 15-Ounce Grab-It Dish with Cover Review

(More customer reviews)OVERALL: This product is a solid workhorse. I have six, and they are favorites for convenient storage of leftovers. They stack and are durable. Unlike plastic, the stoneware cleans completely and does not transfer odors. The size is right for 2 normal servings (~1 cup) or one super-sized serving (15 oz.) which can be frozen or reheated in the same container.

If this CorningWare's Grab-It dish still came with the original version's glass lid, it would definitely rate five stars. The current version, however--despite Amazon's product description, which mentions glass AND plastic lids--now comes with a single (opaque) plastic lid. Handy enough, but not as durable as the glass lid or as convenient.

FOR WORK: No one would expect a spillproof seal from the glass lid. I wouldn't count on it with this plastic lid, either. If you are taking something to eat at work that contains even a small amount of liquid, consider leaving this lid at home, and covering the Grab-It with Press N Seal or a similar film--you can poke a few holes in it to vent when reheating it. If you want to use the Grab-It cover, pretest it by filling with water and holdng it at an angle. The manufacturing tolerance for the lid vary. Yours may or may not leak.

AT HOME: For storage of leftovers at home, the glass lids were superior: You could see the contents. For this version, you may want to mark the date on the side using a whiteboard marker to avoid those ghastly green surprises when you clean out the refrigerator. You can also simply use a plastic film, but then you can't stack it.

(More customer reviews)Pyrex doesn't need a review--it's great stuff.Non-pourous so it doesn't soak up tastes and smells that can never be washed out.Tough and beautiful, Pyrex does it all.

So the bowls are a no brainer, but why buy these instead of others.The tops of course are the difference.I've found that most Pyrex bowls with tops I had looked at didn't fit on their bowls very well or were made out of materials which didn't seem like they would outlast me--as they should.These tops are durable, make a good seal that wont pop off or leak.And they're labeled with the various volumes of the bowls.

The size range of the set is also very good--from one the size of a cereal bowl to one large enough for a pot-luck salad without being so big that it wouldn't fit in a kitchen cabinet--and they all fit inside each other without the smaller ones rising above the rims of the larger ones.

You can put all the bowls inside each other then close them all up with the largest top--with enough room to put paper towels between each bowl and the next for safety.

(More customer reviews)When I recently replaced a set of old, chipped mixing bowls, I wanted to go with American-made, durable, solid glass.I chose an inexpensive 3-piece Pyrex set but ended up very frustrated with those sloped sides and all of the associated splattering I got whenever I used my hand-held electric mixer. Christmas baking was the last straw.I ordered this Anchor Hocking set for 2 reasons - 1) It's made in the U.S.A., and 2) the sides are much steeper than in the Pyrex sets.I am thrilled with my purchase and am using these bowls for everything now.The Pyrex set is headed for the second-hand store!

*** Helpful Hint July 09 *** - This set doesn't come with the larger 4 qt. bowl, but you might be able to find it at Big Lots for a mere $5.(I did.)Also, I kept my smallest Pyrex bowl (with the sloped sides) because I sometimes set it over another pan of water to double-boil/melt chocolate for recipes.The sloped sides do give it the shallowness needed for double-boiling, but for EVERYTHING ELSE I use these Anchor Hocking mixing bowls.Also, the cracker jars made by Anchor Hocking are fabulous for pantry storage of just about everything - heavyweight glass and made in the U.S.A.!!!

(More customer reviews)Warning: these bowls can't be put in the microwave and they can't be put in the dishwasher.The description does not mention this "minor" detail, but a small insert inside the box does.Who wants to hand-wash a mixing bowl?And who wants to move leftovers out of the storage container into something else in order to microwave it?

Maybe I should have assumed all of this because the bowls are partly made of steel, but so many items these days are microwave-safe even though they have metal in them.It never occurred to me that something made by Corelle could make my kitchen work MORE complicated.

Beyond that - the bowls look fine, and they are supposedly scratch resistant, but they just "feel" like the color will start chipping off soon.And the lids aren't as tight as you might expect.They do fit, but I wouldn't want to tip one upside down.

(More customer reviews)My wife and I bought 3 complete sets of this dinnerware plus all the accessories.We really like them except for two problems.As previously stated the dinner plate is oversized and I had to make some modifications to make them fit in our cabinets. Also, they don't fit our dishwasher very well.We end up using the salad plates which are almost as big as a normal dinner plate.My biggest complaint is that these dishes are NOT microwave safe.Three minutes on high and you'd BETTER use a potholder.Don't even think about making a cup of coffee or tea, you'll end up with a blister! If you can deal with these problems as we have, you can set a beautiful table.
