8Qt Carbon Steel Pasta Cooker / Steamer Set Review

This thing is great for all foods that have to be drained after cooking. Also works well for pasta that has to be (or needs to be) rinsed in hot or cold water. The boiling pattern is much better than a regular pot with the rolling action coming from the sides instead of up through the middle. Three things I don't like...1) The handles get friggin' HOT if your heat source is not fully contained under the pot. 2) The capacity is smaller that I hoped for.The inner pot sits about 2 inches off the bottom of the pot itself, reducing capacity.Twenty-four ounces of spagetti will fill it up after cooking. 3) A bit slow to come to boil on a gas cooktop, even starting with hot tap water to begin with.Agonizingly slow if you start with cool water. The steamer insert works well, also.Non stick, a breeze to clean. I feel this is a good value for the money and would recommend it to a friend if need be.

Simply Calphalon Stainless Multipot Review

I bought this set to replace another pot of similar size. I figured that this would be a great deal - it's got inserts and it's from Calphalon at a great price too. The tempered glass cover fits well and is helpful because you can see inside without removing the cover although it spits when the pot is at a full and rapid boil. It's a stainless steel piece so it's not dark when you look inside like many other Calphalon pieces. The aluminum bottom is not the same as on their commercial or professional lines. It's a heavy-duty aluminum bottom attached to a stainless steel pot. Even though the pot along with the bottom is thicker and heavier than most other lines that do the same, it did not heat up like other Calphalon pieces that I own. Still, I cooked a stew at a slow simmer for six hours and it didn't burn at the bottom. A good thing.
This is the first time that I have inserts like these and I don't think much of the big insert. To cook pasta or food, you need to add an additional 2 quarts of water (the amount needed to touch the bottom of the insert) making it more time consuming to use. I will cook my pasta without the insert and may use the insert as a colander/drainer. The small insert is useful because you can steam items while boiling pasta or other items
All in all, a good pot not a great one at a great price.

Gourmet Chef 4 Piece Pasta Cooker Set Review

This arrived broken, mostly due to poor packing. But I could see that the product has cheap plastic handles that would not hold up to constant use. I sent it back for a refund. I think it would be wise to save my money for a better quality set.

Cuisinart Chef's Classic Stainless Steel 4-Piece 12-Quart Pasta/Steamer Set Review

I bought this to replace an older smaller pasta cooker.I have about 20 pieces of the Cuisinart Multiclad Pro cookware but couldn't justify spending over $100 for a large stockpot. The only notable difference is that the Multiclad has the sandwiched aluminum all the way up the sides of the pot.Not really necessary I thought for something I would use mostly for boiling water.Besides, the heat source is only really from below and that extra multiclad surface only adds to the weight.

I love the shiney exterior and the large capacity compared to my previous pasta pot. The steamer insert is a nice little extra but I'm not sure I'd want to haul out this enormous pot just to steam a few veggies. The lid is more domed than Cuisinart's standard lids and has a more sculpted handle.Cleanup is easy but only if you have a very large sink. The handles on both the pot and insert are solid and appear to be very securely attached.

So what's not to like?

This pot was a lot bigger than I anticipated. So large in fact that it doesn't fit in my normal cookware drawer.I ended up having to divide the pot from the insert just so it would fit in the cabinets. And that domed lid just adds to the height. The insert didn't need to stick out of the pot as far as it does and the handles on the insert come out further than those on the pot itself.Where the pot will barely fit, the insert won't just because of the handles. The other problem with the height of this pot comes when you try to use it on your stove.I nearly have to stick my head under the fan hood to see inside it!

The inside of both the pasta insert and the steamer basket won't drain completely. There are no drain holes along the bottom outer edges so the water continues to drip after removing it from the pot whenever it's tilted.I'm also not sure why they made the outsides of the insert and steam basket so shiny but made the insides brushed. This is almost the opposite of their fry pans.A shiny smooth inside would have made cleanup easier without the use of Teflon.

It would have received 5 stars except for these minor issues.

The small pot included in this order was of inferior quality. This was the 2nd time I had ordered it, but chose to keep the Large Pot and throw away the small pot, as it was also defective the same way it was on the first order. The nipples on the inside didn't exist and was not able to lock/close the lid.
