(More customer reviews)I always just used the flimsy cheap 5" knives that were given to us prior to this purchase.This was my first "nice" piece of cutlery.The difference is amazing.Chopping vegetables takes half the time that it used to with the cheaper knives.I particularly like the heavier feel of the santoku over other specialty knives I have used in the past.If you are looking for a general purpose knife to handle your daily chopping needs, I would highly recommend purchasing this.

(More customer reviews)I had been looking for an affordable, serrated santoku knife for a long time, but I was too chicken to just go out and buy one and be disappointed, so I read reviews.Billions of reviews!I finally settled on these J.A. Henckels Eversharp knives.They came in a 2-pack, and I found them at Bed Bath & Beyond (love that store!).I couldn't be happier with them!!I've had them for about 2 years now, and they are still as sharp as the day I got them.I use them often.They are comfortable to use, and they are awesome for slicing tomatoes and other thin-skinned fruits & veggies, as well as meat.They've gone into the dishwasher many, many times (top rack), and I haven't seen them rust at all!I would buy these again in a second!

Also, if you get them at Bed Bath & Beyond, be sure to use a $5 off $15 coupon, and that'll knock your cost down to only $15 for both knives!!

(More customer reviews)I loved these knives when I got them.They had excellent balance and felt great.They looked really cool, and I was very happy, until.....

Less than a month after owning them, I was using the 7-inch to slice an apple.I wasn't doing anything crazy with it, nor had I in the past.The apple was on a plastic cutting board, and as the knife went through the apple, the blade shattered!I was shocked, because I hadn't put any extraordinary pressure on the knife.After this happened, I looked at the 5-inch, and I could see a slight crack in the same place on that knife.So it doesn't appear to be an isolated incident!

I'm sad, but I guess I'll go with a more trusted brand next time.

(More customer reviews)Great knives for the price of popular Henckels brand. Made with German steel and fabricated in China. I was surprised for the low price for this pair until I received them which is thinner than what I expected. I love this design where the blades have hollow spots which create air gaps, this make it easier to slice solid foods like cheese and hams. They do not stick as much as straight smooth steel blades. The 3-rivet hilt feels solid, smooth, and nicely detailed. Sharp.

(The word Santoku refers to a general-purpose knife that originated from Japan. It is a chef knife primarily used for dicing, slicing, and mincing; designed with the weights of the blade and the handle to be equally balanced.)
