(More customer reviews)I purchased these knives after having purchased and returned mundial steak knives that had great blades, but the black plastic handles faded after only one hand washing. These knives have serrated blades and are fine for cutting steak on a plate, and I don't think I would want steak knives to be any sharper than what these are, because if so, they would damage my dinner plates. You aren't supposed to wash them in the dishwasher, but I have several times now and they came through as good as new.The rose wood box is nothing special, but it's okay.Overall, for the price, I'm quite happy with these knives.

They will rust if water stands on them, and the handles don't respond well to the dishwasher. The blades are thick and sturdy, unlike many steak knives in this price range. Treat them right and they will last! I'd buy them again.

They are absolutely HUGE, and not at all practical for the common household. The would not even fit in our drawer. They never made it out of the package. i sent them back and I was very disappointed. Dimensions of the knives should be included in the description - (Note for web content managers). These knives are nearly 2-2 1/2 inches wide.

Henckels Eversharp knives.They came in a 2-pack, and I found them at Bed Bath & Beyond (love that store!).I couldn't be happier with them!!I've had them for about 2 years now, and they are still as sharp as the day I got them.I use them often.They are comfortable to use, and they are awesome for slicing tomatoes and other thin-skinned fruits & veggies, as well as meat.They've gone into the dishwasher many, many times (top rack), and I haven't seen them rust at all!I would buy these again in a second!

The funny little curved bladed one looked to be possibly not that useful, but turned out to be the best knife we have and use. The curved thin tip is just perfect for coring apples and such. I always buy brand-name (read "expensive") cutlery because cheap knives are hard to use, don't hold an edge, and can be down-right dangerous. All of my knives are made by Henckels and I wouldn't use any other. You definitely get what you pay for and since my kitchen tools are used a lot and are going to be around a long time, I only buy the best. And these little knives are the best.

The Ergonomic, polypropylene handles feel good and well proportioned to my hand.The blades are sharp and have done a good job at staying sharp.

* 5 inch - Santoku Knife

Great chopping knife for mincing, slicing and cutting through bones like nothing.I use this as an all purpose knife.I'm thinking about buying another because I love it so much. I have used the santoku knife to cut through raw chicken bone like it's nothing. Even after a good deal of abuse, the blade of the santoku knife is a little chipped and worn but still does an amazing job of cutting.

* 8-inch chef's knife

I use it to cut through large heads of vegetables. It long enough to cut through a cabbage head easily and with little effort. Can slice a tomato easily without squishing it.

* 5-inch serrated utility

Great for cutting through bread and hard crust.

* 4-inch paring

Good for peeling carrots, skin of tomato and other small jobs

* 2-3/4-inch paring/boning

Good for cutting meat and meat from bones.

* Kitchen Shears

So very useful. I use it from cutting open packages to even cutting up herbs.

(More customer reviews)Okay, so they are made in Spain rather than Germany...so what?These knives are a great starter set for anyone looking to "upgrade" from the dull knives they got as a hand-me-down or when they went off to college.
Chefs say that a safe knife is a sharp knife, and you just can't get that with inferior knives.This line by Henckels probably gets overlooked because you don't find it on the shelves of Williams-Sonoma, but they are just as good.Cutting is also faster with a well-balanced knife with some weight behind it, which this set has as well.I've added kitchen shears since I bought mine, and I'll probably add the utility knife, carving set and cleaver before I'm done.The knives you start with though are all you need.I find myself using just about all of them (except the boning knife) almost every day.
Two caveats though...don't put them in the dishwasher and don't forget to use the steel either before or after you use your knives.My sister put her knives (not Henckels, but of similiar quality) in the dishwasher on a consistant basis and the edges got nicked from all the banging around that goes on.Also, using the steel will keep you from having to have the knives professionally sharpened.

I'm a recent college grad and want to start collecting some quality kitchen equipment to last me a lifetime (hopefully). My initial tip on these kinves was from the book "Kitchen Confidential" by Anthony Bourdain - a great read if you are interested in exploring cooking and the restaurant world or "culinary underbelly" as I believe he calls it. Bourdain recommends Global knives in the book.

These knives are the sharpest I have ever used. They are also very light and a delight to hold - great craftsmanship. My mother kept a set of heavy German knives that were dull as rocks (I don't think she ever sharpened them, well maybe once a decade) and it was always frightful to use them growing up as I felt I'd cut my finger clear off trying to get a raw potato sliced (I loved making the mashed potatoes).

The three piece set gives you a lot of versatility. I've even *gasp* used these as an impromptu cardboard box cutter. One cool thing about this set is it includes a Santoku as the main chef's knife. According to Wikipedia, the "'granton edge' release pattern (scalloped) on the blades that not only adds style, but helps to release thin slices and sticky food after slicing." Cool.

Looking into sharpening options - suggestions welcome.

(More customer reviews)before purchasing, i read the reviews and noted that i should hand wash these knives... and i've been doing just that and placing wet knives in my dishrack to air dry. maybe that's where i went wrong (i should have towel dried them as well?), but the knives still rusted, and that is NOT making me happy. i have another knife that looks just like these, made by Cuisinart, that DOES NOT rust, even when washed in the dishwasher. i'm wondering why these rust so much. isn't "stainless steel" supposed to resist rust?

other than the rusting issue, the knives are very good. they are incredibly sharp. however, with the rusting issue, i wish i could return them...
