The funny little curved bladed one looked to be possibly not that useful, but turned out to be the best knife we have and use. The curved thin tip is just perfect for coring apples and such. I always buy brand-name (read "expensive") cutlery because cheap knives are hard to use, don't hold an edge, and can be down-right dangerous. All of my knives are made by Henckels and I wouldn't use any other. You definitely get what you pay for and since my kitchen tools are used a lot and are going to be around a long time, I only buy the best. And these little knives are the best.

The Ergonomic, polypropylene handles feel good and well proportioned to my hand.The blades are sharp and have done a good job at staying sharp.

* 5 inch - Santoku Knife

Great chopping knife for mincing, slicing and cutting through bones like nothing.I use this as an all purpose knife.I'm thinking about buying another because I love it so much. I have used the santoku knife to cut through raw chicken bone like it's nothing. Even after a good deal of abuse, the blade of the santoku knife is a little chipped and worn but still does an amazing job of cutting.

* 8-inch chef's knife

I use it to cut through large heads of vegetables. It long enough to cut through a cabbage head easily and with little effort. Can slice a tomato easily without squishing it.

* 5-inch serrated utility

Great for cutting through bread and hard crust.

* 4-inch paring

Good for peeling carrots, skin of tomato and other small jobs

* 2-3/4-inch paring/boning

Good for cutting meat and meat from bones.

We don't use the steak knives much because I have a set of those we like very well, but I use the kitchen shears frequently, as well as the paring knives and the 7 inch knife.
The kitchen shears are fantastic. I want to pick up a couple spare pairs. They wash very easily and I use them instead of a knife to cut up chicken breasts for tacos, on tortillas to make corn chips and anything else I can think of instead of using a knife!

(More customer reviews)I bought these knives for my mother as a gift. She previously had an old set of Chicago Cutlery knives (30+ years) that needed replacement, and after some research, I decided to go with these.

I own a set of Shun knives myself. I've used her old Chicago Cutlery knives a fair bit, as well as many other brands (mostly inexpensive ones). So I've used dirt cheap, to (nearly) top of the line.

My impressions of the knives...

Pro - These knives have a comfortable, well balanced feel to them. They cut well, and they look handsome in the block.

Con - Other than the minor complaint that the block isn't fitted to the set(some holes are too big for the smaller knives), at this price, no other complaints have merit.Conclusion - I think these knives are a good deal. If you want a good set of knives, and can't/don't want to spend $1000+ on an upscale set... These are definitely worth a look at.

(More customer reviews)These are amazing knives that are so sharp they cut easily through thin plastic cutting sheets, so BE CAREFUL!I've also cut myself on the points while washing them.The only beef I have with them is that the points have bent on some of them with little pressure, and on one knife the tip actually broke off.Again, BE CAREFUL...The block I received doesn't match the block on the box, and has a space for scissors.Even after returning the set, the new set I received had the same block again.In this block, the longest knife protrudes out the bottom (not so far that it hits the counter, but you could get cut moving it around if you happen to grab the bottom of the block.BE CAREFUL...) I've had them in heavy use for 6 mos, not long enough to test the eversharp edge.My Regent Sheffield eversharps are 20 years old and still sharp without sharpening.They were never as sharp as these Henckels, though!

The blades are nice and strong and sharp right out of the box.Spend a few seconds on each one with the included sharpening Steel and they just get shaper.There is only ONE thing that is somewhat bothering to me and most would laugh about this but when you place all the knifes in the storage block they don't line up perfect like the picture shows.After trying to rearrange the knifes you just can't get them to line up.This has nothing to do with the quality of the knifes and with me being extremely hard to please.This only bothered me for 5 minutes and I decided this set is WAY to nice especially for the price to let this bother me.They kind of make a rainbow shape when placed in the storage block so it looks ok.Like I said I am hard to please when it comes to quality of a product and this set pleases me.I have looked at many sets before purchasing this set and for only $129.95 I truly believe you will NOT find a better set.Maybe even for more money.I highly recommend you give them a try.

(More customer reviews)These are our daily use knives, particularly the paring knife, and steak knives. We've owned them about four years.

They are beautiful, clean up well, but occasionally do need to be polished when water or rust spots appear. We don't dishwasher the chefs or carving knife, but we do dishwasher all of the other knives.

Stainless steel doesn't sharpen to as keen of an edge as some other high carbon steel knives, but then the high carbon knives discolor more readily. That is the trade-off.

As a result, for heavy veg prep, we'll grab the Global chefs knife. For raw meat, we prefer the Shun. At the dinner table. for roast or turkey carving, the Henckles outperforms the included knife.

The scissors come apart for easy dish-washing and sanitizing and cut chicken bone with some effort. They stay sharp though, we've assaulted many a double walled cardboard box with them and haven't deemed it necessary to sharpen them yet. The honing steel is about all it takes.

In hind sight, while we've collected particular knives for particular work thus obviating the need for the two largest knives in the set, we'd still buy this just to have a matching counter top set.

Excellent knives for $119. Good weight and balance of handle and blade. It feels great in your hand. Razor sharp but sharpening is a must before each use (or at least every other use). It may not have the prestige presence of a Wusthof or Henckels set on the kitchen counter, but it DOES NOT look cheap. Its Japanese design and bamboo block make it more of a resemblance of a Shun knives set. And Shun is actually more expensive than the two more popular brands.

The Bad:
Handle's finish becomes very flat and dull after wash. Dab a little oil on a paper towel and rub it on the handle and it will look fantastic without being slippery.

The Ugly:
The Ginsu name seems to make it sounds like a cheap TV offer knives set. But believe me it looks and performs like a $500 set.

***Best knives set for your money. You will not find a better knives set for $120 unless you find a set of high end Shun, Wusthof or Henckels for 85% off at a closeout sale somewhere.
