(More customer reviews)Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Henckles.I think they are the best knives on the planet.However I feel like I got ripped of with this set in particular.

The picture shows what I believed was a kudamono parer.So I was very suprised when it arrived to find a typical 4 inch parer which was exactly the same as the one I received in another set I bought. But when you read the description, it IS listed as a 4 inch parer, which is what I got.I suppose I should have paid closer attention to the details, but the picture showed what I wanted and I thought the description was just describing what was pictured.

I just wanted to write this review so no one makes the same mistake I made.The knives themselves are the best I've ever had.

The edges have remained sharp with very little sharpening and the wood handles have maintained their beauty. I do not place them in a dish washer because of the wood handles and an occasional coating of gun oil keeps them in fine shape.

(More customer reviews)For a very inexpensive knife set, these serve very well. The blades seem to stay sharp for a long time. We don't use the steak knives much because I have a set of those we like very well, but I use the kitchen shears frequently, as well as the paring knives and the 7 inch knife.
The kitchen shears are fantastic. I want to pick up a couple spare pairs. They wash very easily and I use them instead of a knife to cut up chicken breasts for tacos, on tortillas to make corn chips and anything else I can think of instead of using a knife!

(More customer reviews)I shopped for a long time and selected these for my wife for christmas. We love to cook and her old knives were getting a little boring - these knives are far from it. The handle feels great and having a full tang that extends through the comfortable curves handle looks AND feels great. We use all of the knives a great deal. The only things *missing* which you'll want to add on are a 6" chef's knife and a bread knife. We had the latter already, so that made this set a no-brainer. I will be picking up the other "missing" knife for $80 at a chain shop. I cannot say enough about the quality. If you're a foodie or just like to have nice, great-looking equipment in your kitchen, these knives beat the snot out of the 4- and 5-star lines.

(More customer reviews)before purchasing, i read the reviews and noted that i should hand wash these knives... and i've been doing just that and placing wet knives in my dishrack to air dry. maybe that's where i went wrong (i should have towel dried them as well?), but the knives still rusted, and that is NOT making me happy. i have another knife that looks just like these, made by Cuisinart, that DOES NOT rust, even when washed in the dishwasher. i'm wondering why these rust so much. isn't "stainless steel" supposed to resist rust?

other than the rusting issue, the knives are very good. they are incredibly sharp. however, with the rusting issue, i wish i could return them...

These knives are the second best I have ever used, second only to Henckels Pro and Gourmet knives which are 2-5X the cost of Forged Synergy. Possibly the other reviewer meant to review Henckels "Fine Edge Synergy" knives which are a much lesser quality that I would not suggest buying. If you are a home cook/chef, these are more knife than you will ever need.

(More customer reviews)These are our daily use knives, particularly the paring knife, and steak knives. We've owned them about four years.

They are beautiful, clean up well, but occasionally do need to be polished when water or rust spots appear. We don't dishwasher the chefs or carving knife, but we do dishwasher all of the other knives.

Stainless steel doesn't sharpen to as keen of an edge as some other high carbon steel knives, but then the high carbon knives discolor more readily. That is the trade-off.

As a result, for heavy veg prep, we'll grab the Global chefs knife. For raw meat, we prefer the Shun. At the dinner table. for roast or turkey carving, the Henckles outperforms the included knife.

The scissors come apart for easy dish-washing and sanitizing and cut chicken bone with some effort. They stay sharp though, we've assaulted many a double walled cardboard box with them and haven't deemed it necessary to sharpen them yet. The honing steel is about all it takes.

In hind sight, while we've collected particular knives for particular work thus obviating the need for the two largest knives in the set, we'd still buy this just to have a matching counter top set.

Ginsu 7112 Chikara 12-Piece Stainless Steel Knife Set with Block Review

Excellent knives for $119. Good weight and balance of handle and blade. It feels great in your hand. Razor sharp but sharpening is a must before each use (or at least every other use). It may not have the prestige presence of a Wusthof or Henckels set on the kitchen counter, but it DOES NOT look cheap. Its Japanese design and bamboo block make it more of a resemblance of a Shun knives set. And Shun is actually more expensive than the two more popular brands.

The Bad:
Handle's finish becomes very flat and dull after wash. Dab a little oil on a paper towel and rub it on the handle and it will look fantastic without being slippery.

The Ugly:
The Ginsu name seems to make it sounds like a cheap TV offer knives set. But believe me it looks and performs like a $500 set.

***Best knives set for your money. You will not find a better knives set for $120 unless you find a set of high end Shun, Wusthof or Henckels for 85% off at a closeout sale somewhere.
