well, hard to say.first of all, this isn't for you if you have an electric stove.it just doesn't get hot enough.i even bought a second wok ring to lower it a bit and it still doesn't reach ideal heat.i'm not sure whether its' the cookware itself, or just the fact that it isn't made for an electric stove.i can tell you it is indeed hand hammered, all the pieces of the set came and were as expected.all in all it is a beautiful wok, just not sure it gets hot enough.oh, and don't try to contact the company thru the phone number they give in their instruction booklet, it's not even the right number and the people there acted like they thought i was crazy.not sure how that happens, but they give the wrong number in their own pamphlet.

Product Description:
To preserve the several thousand years old history of Chinese cooking, we have recreated cookware using traditional, hand-crafted methods. Each wok is unique, bearing the marks of artisans who have labored for hours hammering and shaping the high quality steel by hand.

This gift set represents some of the essential tools that have been used by every Chinese from restaurant to home cook for generation. We hope you will enjoy the vibrant and crisp flavors of Chinese cooking through the beauty and artistry of our cookware.

Our Unique Production Process
Our wok is unique as we employ the traditional wok-making method. In hours of deafening hammering and intense heat, a carbon steel disc undergoes constant rotation and hammering by the skillful hands of our wok craftsmen. The structure of the metal is gradually changed, giving it greater strength and durability.

The Reason for a Wok
The round bottom shape of a wok is the original design that has existed for two thousand years. The semi-spherical curve of the work offers maximum cooking surface and minimal fuel contact. The concave shape makes stirring easy as ingredients can be partially placed up on the sides without spilling. It is also ideal for deep-frying with minimum amounts of oil.

With proper care, a wok provides a natural non-stick surface and requires less oil for cooking. Carbon steel conducts heat efficiently. The wok heats up and cools down quickly and provides the cook with the maximum control over the fire.

What's Included
This gift set includes our signature 14" hand-hammered carbon steel wok, a hand-made bamboo steamer, a wok ring for kitchen without stove rack, a spatula for stir-frying, a ladle for handling the sauce, a pair of cooking chopsticks and a traditional bamboo brush for cleaning the wok after use. Also included are two booklets that tell you about the history of the wok and instructions for cleaning and cooking in the wok.

Joyce Chen Classic Series 4-Piece Carbon-Steel Nonstick Wok Set Review

I used this wok about 5 times. It's now in a garbage. Not because it's bad, but because the coating is weak and not as effective as you'd imagine for non-stick.

The cleaning - on that piece of paper you see in the picture, it tells you that you're not supposed to use anything to wash it, but warm water. You're not even supposed to use soap to wash it. The problem is that things stick on this pan (and yes, it says non-stick on it). You have to scrub it off, but it's still pretty hard to get things off

The cooking - worked just fine and like any other woks. Since it's non-stick, you can't use anything higher than medium. If you do, things won't be pretty.

My personal experience:

Things were sticking on it so much that I ended up having to scrub it off with a sponge. I tried using the softer surface (not the "astro turf" side) and things are still sticking. Eventually when I get it off, it also takes part of the coating off. I heated it up a few more times and eventually my last attempt gave it bumps at the bottom of the pan.

The nice thing is that it comes with a wooden spatula and some recipes on that piece of paper. I guess you have things that you can use for a while, but the wok itself didn't last me long at all. I'm sure others may have better experience if they could actually follow the instruction of not using anything else to clean it, but water.

You can buy a carbon steel wok for around $30, so why spend so much more?

The wok body is heavy but not too heavy. Professional Chinese chefs generally prefer carbon steel, though some like cast iron. Having cooked on both, I like the responsiveness of carbon steel.

The size and shape of the wok are nicely suited for home use. I use it on a gas range and prefer having the flat-bottom style vs. using a wok ring, which raises the wok up away from the burner and lets the wok tip a bit more. (If you have an electric range, definitely choose a flat-bottom wok or else it can't get hot enough.)

Not visible in the photo are the concentric rings around the the outside, giving the wok at least the appearance of being made of spun (vs. stamped) steel.

The wood handles are beautiful, smooth maple - and are solidly attached to the body of the wok. The glass lid is a little too upscale for a wok - it seems to defy the peasant roots of the vessel. I would have been perfectly happy with a tall metal lid but don't have any real complaints about the glass one, though the thin metal rim looks like it might dent easily.

Reminders: Don't forget to season the wok before you use it. Wash with hot water, no soap. Dry on the stovetop to prevent rust.

Lastly, I'll add a recommendation for this book for choosing, seasoning, and cooking in a wok. A great read beyond the recipes it offers:

The Breath of a Wok: Unlocking the Spirit of Chinese Wok Cooking Through Recipes and Lore

The wok itself is great. I purchased this item for my wife and she loves it.Unfortunately I was a bit upset to find out that this item does not actually come with a lid.The product features state "Tempered glass covers offer see-through convenience and enhance table presentation" causing me to believe this item included a lid. That is not the case and now I am stuck looking for a lid.Great item, misleading product features.
