Staub La Theiere Round Teapot Review

(More customer reviews)This teapot was at the top of my wishlist last Christmas (except in the color "le bleu"), and I was thrilled to find it under the tree! It is, by far, the most beautiful and interesting teapot I've ever seen and it dresses up my stove and kitchen even more than I had imagined. It is always one of the first things admired when someone new walks into my kitchen. It has an almost asian aesthetic which I find incredibly unique, and I love the way the handles fold down to allow you to remove the whole top. Not only is it sooooooo cool, but it's also nice to be able to get at the inside of the teapot to clean it. All the other ones I've owned had a very small top which made it difficult to clean off those hard water spots! But while this is the most beautiful and unique teapot, it is certainly not the most practical and it falls a little short in the function department. My complaints with it are the following:

1)Its terribly small girth: I have a professional Thermador rangetop with massive burners and this poor little teapot gets swallowed up by them. I have to have the burner on medium-low to low as to not have flames lopping up the sides of the teapot. This, coupled with the fact that cast iron is slow to heat up anyway, makes the task of heating up water take WAY longer than my old stainless steel model. Also, the small size is generally fine for everyday use, but if you are trying to boil teawater for more than a few people, then this teapot cannot accomodate your needs.

2)Its weight: Don't be fooled by its petite size, this is one heavy teapot! It doesn't pose too much of a problem for me, being that I'm still relatively young and strong, but if I were much older or had arthritis or other joint problems, I don't think I'd be able to handle this teapot!

3)Hot handle: Now bear in mind that this has always been a problem with every teapot I've ever owned, but those stainless handles get super hot. So hot, in fact, that it requires the use of oven mitts to handle, but again, I expect that from a teapot.

4)No whistle: The last teapot I had whistled, which I found to be a very handy feature. It has been a difficult transition for me without one, b/c I used to rely on the whistle to let me know when the water was at a boil and now I tend to forget to check on the pot.

All that being said, I still wouldn't trade in this teapot. I am so in love with the look of it, that I am willing to compromise on the function department. It may not have all the convenient features of my old teapot, but it still serves its purpose. It does boil water after all!

So for beauty and aesthetics this teapot is off the charts (5 stars all the way), but it earns 3 stars in the function department, leaving me with a final rating of 4 stars. If you can sacrifice a few comforts associated with some other models in order to gain a striking and unique teapot that is sure to become a conversation piece, then I wholeheartedly recommend this teapot to you!

(More customer reviews)To some the price might seem a little high, but if you are looking for a top quality fondue pot this is the one to buy.The pot itself is heavy and holds and distributes heat very well.I've used many other fondue pots with less than perfect results.

We make a lot of cheese and chocolate fondue and I have never burned either with this pot, even when the fondue has had a flame on it for a couple of hours.

The base is very sturdy and I have no fear of the pot falling off it even when the kids are goofing around trying to get last of the chocolate.

The burner always lights for me (some others I've used have not worked as well).It burns liquid fuel and jel fuel so there is never a problem trying to decide what to buy.Use the liquid when you need a hotter flame (for broths and deep frying), use the jel for a slightly cooler flame (for cheese and chocolate).But, either fuel will work for whatever you are heating.

I like this fondue pot so much I've order a second one.If you really like fondue and want something that will last, this fondue set is worth every penny.

Heuck 33021 11 Inch Porcelain Enamel Cast Iron Panni Set, Red Review

It's biggest problem is that it is advertised as having a porcelain interior to make it not require seasoning and make cleanup easy. But the interior surface is so rough that I can't tell if it has an enamel finish. The next problem is the press is not one peice. The handle is screwed to the press. I don't know if the surface that matches to the press is painted to prevent rust. I doubt it because the handle is unpainted on the underside. It looks like it was spray painted from the top so it didn't get fully covered. I say go elsewere.

I think the brass knob with the yellow is so pretty and cheerful like a little bird.It will really dress up the table and usually I don't care but I love the combination of sturdiness and tininess.

The mini cocottes sold faster than the 2 quart size.I know that some expensive restaurants are using them but I wonder what is most effectively served in them.A truly delectable glutinous rice recipe?Individual pots of melted cheese? Buy one and serve melted peanut butter at breakfast or for children's sandwiches replacing the purchase of a diablo? How about dissolving raspberry jam for a quick thin sauce to pour over aebleskiver?
1 hour at 350 degrees F if you are scared to put this on a hot stove:

Cheese Fondu
(From Gourmet Magazine 1966 & 2001)
1 garlic clove, halved crosswise
1 1/2 cups dry white wine
1 Tbsp cornstarch
2 tsp kirsch
1/2 lb Emmental cheese, coarsely grated (2 cups)
1/2 lb Gruyere cheese, coarsely grated (2 cups)CHEDDAR SOUFFLE

(Start to finish 40 minutes)

5 tablespoons butter, plus 2 teaspoons

1/2 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese

3/4 cup rice flour

2 cups whole milk

1 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese

6 egg yolks

2 teaspoons fresh thyme

2 teaspoons salt

2 pinches nutmeg

4 egg whites Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Use the 5 tablespoons of butter to grease six 6-ounce ramekins. Dust the insides of the ramekins with the Parmesan cheese, wiping away an excess from around the rim.

In a small saucepan over a medium heat, melt the remaining butter. Add the rice flour and cook, stirring constantly, 2 to 3 minutes.

Add the milk and whisk until thick and incorporated, about 5 minutes. Add the Cheddar cheese, egg yolks, thyme, salt and nutmeg, stirring until the cheese is melted. Remove from the heat and set aside.

Use a mixer with the whisk attachment, whip the egg whites until they form stiff peaks, about 3 minutes. Using a rubber spatula, carefully fold the egg whites into the cheese and milk mixture until just incorporated.

Spoon the mixture into the prepared ramekins, leaving 1/4-inch space at the top. Bake 25 to 30 minutes, or until golden brown.

Makes 6 servings.

(More customer reviews)There was a bit of sticker shock involved, but the 20 piece Le Creuset cookware set has performed well so far. Easy to use, easier to clean up, and all the pieces look fabulous.

We originally bought the set for induction cooktop compatibility (since most pieces are enameled cast iron), but in truth these are great pieces no matter what type of stove one has.

Heads up - several pieces are stoneware, so those particular ones will not work on induction cooktops - they work great in the oven, though!

(More customer reviews)These are excellent pots- the nonstick surface is an improvement over regular old Teflon and they're heavy and spread the heat well. Gotta love the splendid red color, too!
I find these cook a bit slow, but that's a good thing; I haven't managed to overcook and mangle a single thing in these pots. The heat spreads well and stays consistent, I haven't had any "cold spot" problems. They're also a snap to clean, I like an OXO Nylon bristle dish scrubber. Nothing sticks and pots almost wash themselves.
I wish they made a 12 inch skillet; but this is a perfect starter set and easier to use than a lot of fancy pots are.
Very Highly Recomended!
